Manifold Exhaust Repair
Resurfacing, Thread repair, Manifold Replacement & Installation
The exhaust manifold of a vehicle is the beginning of a vehicles exhaust system. It connects to the engine block of the vehicle to direct the exhaust fumes from the engine towards the filter system (catalytic converter(s)) then out the tail end of the vehicle from the exhaust tips.
Through regular use and years of wear & tear the exhaust manifold can sometimes require repairs like:
- Resurfacing- This is when the manifold piece is no longer evenly leveled with the engine block causing an exhaust leak, therefore requires removal and to be resurfaced at a machine shop and then reinstalled.
- Thread Repair- All manifolds are bolted onto the engine block by multiple threads and in some cases through regular wear & tear can snap completely. This repair of a broken thread requires full removal of the manifold to remove the broken thread, repair, then reinstall.
- Manifold Replacement- Some manifold eventually wear down and begin to crack. Most of the time when a manifold begins to crack, welding the crack will only be a temporary fix as the integrity of the piece is already worn down. This would mean your vehicle requires a new manifold piece to be installed.
Due to the difficult positioning of a vehicles manifold this repair takes a few hours and is labor intensive. On average a manifold repair is $300 per side for labor alone. New manifold parts and resurfacing costs are extra.
